San Francisco-Based Designer Tineke Triggs Selects the Rich, Warm Brown, Bringing a Familiar, Earthy Comfort to American Kitchens
BLANDON, PA — December 3, 2024—BlueStar®, manufacturer of professional-grade kitchen appliances for the home, is excited to announce the brand’s 2025 Color of the Year: Signal Brown, a timeless shade of brown with deep hints of rust. Designer Tineke Triggs, known for her well-executed use of color, selected the BlueStar 2025 Color of the Year for its robust grounding nature, which creates a sense of reliability and comfort when included in the home.
An essential factor in Triggs’ selection process was the impact of color on the human experience, particularly how it can stimulate or calm the nervous system. In today’s chaotic industrial world, there is a growing desire to design homes that promote well-being and a connectedness to nature. Triggs was drawn to colors with organic depth, often found in nature’s hidden layers, and sought a hue that felt familiar yet complex and inviting. This need for grounding and tranquility led Triggs to Signal Brown, a rich, deep brown with red, plum, and burnt orange undertones. The warmth of this color not only engages the senses but also creates a harmonious backdrop for other shades, cultivating peaceful and restorative environments.
“Part of why I selected Signal Brown is that it is a great warm baseline that has the versatility to complement a broad range of colors and materials often found in the kitchen. Signal Brown pairs well with deep, dark blues, softer greige-beige tones, and neutrals. It looks great with soft white oak and dark black finishes and is deep enough to pop against gold and silver, adding a jewelry-like effect,” says Triggs. “It’s a color we’ve seen trending in fashion, and we are seeing that momentum pick up in design, as interior trends often follow the runway.”
“We are thrilled to see Signal Brown selected for this year’s color of the year. The luxuriously revived brown is sure to make a major impact on 2025 kitchen designs and beyond,” says Ann Muth, Vice President of Marketing at BlueStar. “Aligned with her selection, we have seen more brown tones being chosen to create bespoke appliances, often paired with brass accents.”
2025 marks the 5th BlueStar Color of the Year. Each year, a color is selected by a pivotal designer partner as the brand forecasts trends for the upcoming year.
